Vietnam and Cambodia - Hoi An
Greetings from Hoi An ... arrived here this afternoon in the rain ... the journey from Hue should have been filled with fantastic views as we journeyed along the South China Sea and over a series of three passesthe most scenic being Cloudy Pass .... but today thick mist ruined any chance of a view. We had a visit to the Cham Museum in Da Nang, (The Museum of Cham Sculpture is a museum located in Hai Chau district, Đà Nẵng, central Vietnam. The museum was founded in 1915 as the Musée Henri Parmentier during the colonial French era to preserve the finds of the ancient Champa kingdom and is the only museum in the world dedicated solely to this era. It houses the largest collection of Cham sculpture.).
It was then on to Hoi An, first... time for lunch at the Cargo Club... today the menu was ....Tomato Basil Soup, Spring Roll, Grilled Chicken & Lime Leaf, Stuffed Squid, Caramel Fish in a Clay Pot, Stir Fried Green Bean and Onion, Steam Rice, Carrot Cake... and of course a local beer.
A short walking tour to view the Assembly Hall of the Fujian Chinese Congregation, further on and the Japanese Covered Bridge built in 1593. We also visited the Tan Ky House, a preserved house from the 19C. which once belonged to a Vietnamese merchant. It was then in the rain that we boarded a boat for a cruise on the Thu Bon River, no windows just a roof and open sides with the rain soaking us from all sides ... we endured this to see local fisherman through out their nets to try and make a living of approx US$2 a day.... the finished at the Silk shop, I have been fitted and ordered 4 shirts, not silk but Egyptian Cotton and Polyester Cotton .... fitting at 11am tomorrow ...lets see how they turn out !!!
